Travel Tips Of Bannerghatta Biological Park

Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
The National Park's Transition: The Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) is a part of the larger Bannerghatta National Park (BNP), established in 1974. The park, spread over a massive 104.27 square kilometers, is a crucial center for the conservation of various endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna. BBP is specifically the developed tourist zone encompassing the Zoo, the Grand Safari (Lion, Tiger, Bear, and Herbivore Safaris), the Butterfly Park, a rescue center, and a nature interpretation center. It plays a pivotal role in ex-situ conservation and environmental education, drawing millions of visitors annually. The Sanctuary for Wildlife: The park is a natural habitat for a wide variety of animals, including elephants, leopards, sloth bears, Bengal tigers, and various species of deer and reptiles. The dedicated Safaris allow visitors to observe these animals in a near-natural, open environment from the safety of a specially enclosed vehicle, making it a thrilling and educational experience, particularly for children and wildlife enthusiasts. The park's mission focuses on eco-tourism and providing a safe haven for wildlife.

Tourism Tips

Health & Safety: Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes, as you will be walking for long periods. Carry insect repellent, especially during the monsoon and post-monsoon. Maintain a safe distance from animal enclosures. Always remain seated and follow instructions during the safari for your safety.

Packing Essentials: Carry a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. A pair of binoculars is highly recommended for better animal viewing during the safari. Bring your camera (and pay the camera fee) and enough drinking water. Strictly avoid carrying any plastic or food items inside the park to protect the animals.

Accommodation Advice: While there are a few resorts and budget hotels on Bannerghatta Road, it is advisable to stay in the city center (Jayanagar, JP Nagar, or BTM Layout) for better connectivity to other city attractions and a wider choice of lodging.

Other Key Tips: Book your Safari tickets online or arrive early to avoid long queues, especially on weekends and holidays. Always check the weather forecast before leaving. Carry some cash, as card payments may not be accepted at all small vendors within the park.
