Banasur Ka Kila

Champawat, Uttarakhand, India
Banasur Ka Kila is a medieval fort situated at an altitude of 1,859 meters. According to Hindu mythology, this fort belonged to the demon king Banasur, who was the son of Bali. Legend says Banasur was defeated by Lord Krishna after a fierce battle triggered by the abduction of Krishna's grandson, A niruddha. The fort provides a stunning 360-degree view of the surrounding valleys and the Lohawati River which originates nearby. To reach the fort, visitors must undergo a 2-kilometer uphill trek from the road head. The ruins of the fort stand as a testament to the ancient military architecture of the Kumaon region and offer a mystical vibe to explorers.
