Devidhura Temple

Champawat, Uttarakhand, India
Devidhura Temple, dedicated to Maa Barahi Devi, is one of the most revered shrines in the Kumaon region. It is perched at an altitude of 2,500 meters amidst dense deodar and oak forests. The temple is globally famous for the Bagwal Festival, a unique ritualistic stone-pelting fair held on Raksha Ba ndhan. Legend has it that the temple was a site of human sacrifice, which was later replaced by this symbolic blood-offering through a mock stone war between four clans. The temple complex is serene and offers a spiritual atmosphere. It is also mentioned in Jim Corbett's famous book, "The Temple Tiger," adding to its historical and literary charm.
