Nandhor Wildlife Sanctuary

Champawat, Uttarakhand, India
Nandhor Wildlife Sanctuary is a sprawling protected area covering approximately 270 Square KMS. Established in 2012, it acts as a vital corridor between the Corbett Tiger Reserve and the Shuklaphanta National Park in Nepal. The sanctuary is rich in biodiversity, housing over 250 species of birds an d several endangered mammals. It is primarily known for its population of Tigers, Wild Elephants, and Leopards. The landscape is a mix of dense Sal forests and the perennial Nandhor River, which provides water to the wildlife year-round. This sanctuary is part of the Terai Arc Landscape and is currently under consideration to be upgraded to a Tiger Reserve. Unlike the more famous national parks, Nandhor offers a raw and uncrowded wilderness experience. Visitors can explore the park through organized jeep safaris and bird-watching trails. The area is also home to the rare Great Pied Hornbill and various species of butterflies. The sanctuary remains closed during the monsoon to allow for rejuvenation. For adventure seekers, the park offers three forest rest houses that provide an authentic stay in the heart of the jungle. It is a haven for researchers and nature photographers who wish to study the unique flora and fauna of the foothills.
