Banbasa Barrage

Champawat, Uttarakhand, India
Banbasa Barrage is a massive hydraulic structure built across the Sharda River (also known as the Mahakali River). It serves as a major border crossing between India and Nepal. The barrage is surrounded by a scenic park and provides a tranquil view of the vast water body and the distant Shivalik hi lls. It is a vital spot for irrigation and power generation in the region. The area is bustling with cross-border trade and travelers moving into the Nepalese town of Mahendranagar. The barrage is also a great place to observe the engineering marvel of the British era, as it has been functional for decades, regulating the flow of water into the Sharda Canal.
