Eden Gardens

Kolkata, West Bengal, India
Eden Gardens is the oldest and second-largest cricket stadium in India and the third-largest in the world by capacity. Established in 1864, it is often called "Cricket’s answer to the Colosseum." The stadium is situated in the Maidan area, surrounded by lush greenery and historical monuments. It has hosted legendary matches, including the 1987 World Cup final and the iconic 2001 India vs Australia Test. The stadium’s name comes from the Eden sisters of Lord Auckland, the then Governor-General. Beyond the cricket field, the complex includes the Eden Gardens park, which features a beautiful Burmese Pagoda brought from Prome in 1854. The stadium has undergone several renovations, including the addition of floodlights and modern bucket seating, but it still retains its historic charm. The "Eden roar" from 66,000 passionate fans is considered one of the most intimidating yet exhilarating experiences for any cricketer. It is the home ground of the Bengal cricket team and the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. For any sports enthusiast, a visit to Eden Gardens is a pilgrimage to witness the temple of Indian cricket.
