Nehru Children's Museum

Kolkata, West Bengal, India
The Nehru Children's Museum was established in 1972 by the National Cultural Association to honor the memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and his love for children. It is a unique educational and cultural center located on Chowringhee Road. The museum is spread across four floors, each dedicated to d ifferent themes. The most famous section is the Doll Gallery, which houses a magnificent collection of dolls from over 88 countries, showcasing global diversity in costume and culture. Another major highlight is the Ramayana and Mahabharata Gallery, where the great Indian epics are depicted through hundreds of exquisitely crafted miniature clay models and dioramas. These displays are not only artistic but also serve as a visual storytelling medium for children to learn about Indian mythology. The museum also features a section on Ganesha, showing the deity in various forms. Beyond exhibits, the museum is a vibrant hub for children's activities, offering workshops in painting, clay modeling, and performing arts. It aims to foster creativity and scientific temper among the youth. The museum's central location makes it an easy stop for families exploring the Maidan area. It remains one of the few places in the city dedicated entirely to the intellectual and cultural development of children, making it a nostalgic trip for many adults who visited as kids.
