Rajbari Bawali is a majestic 300-year-old boutique heritage property located in the hamlet of Bawali. Originally the seat of the Mondal family, who were the zamindars of the region, this palatial mansion fell into a state of ruin for nearly 40 years after India’s independence. It was later redisc overed and meticulously restored to its former glory, reflecting the architectural opulence of the Bengali aristocracy. The history of the Mondal dynasty dates back to the era of Mughal Emperor Akbar, when their ancestor Shobha Ram Rai was gifted land for his bravery. Today, the resort offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern luxury, allowing guests to experience the life of a 'Zamindar'. The property is surrounded by lush greenery and traditional ponds, creating a serene escape from the urban hustle of Kolkata. Visitors are greeted with traditional rituals like blowing conch shells and putting on 'tilak', which immediately transports them back in time. The interiors are decorated with vintage furniture, old photographs, and artifacts that tell the story of a bygone era. The dining experience here is centered around authentic Bengali cuisine, served in a regal setting.
