Detailed Overview: Kuntala Waterfalls is the highest waterfall in the state of Telangana, standing at a majestic height of about 45 meters (147 feet). Formed by the Kadem River, the falls are located within the Sahyadri mountain range. The name "Kuntala" is derived from the legend of Shakuntala, the wife of King Dushyanta, who is said to have bathed in these very waters. The site is a major tourist draw, featuring a well-maintained entry point and a long flight of approximately 408 steps that lead down to the base of the falls. The waterfall descends in two distinct stages, creating a spectacular visual of white water crashing against dark basalt rocks. During the peak Monsoon, the roar of the water can be heard from a great distance. The surrounding forest is lush and serves as a vital habitat for local wildlife. A small shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as Someshwara Swami, is located near the falls, adding a spiritual dimension to the visit.
