How To Reach Kuntala Waterfalls

Adilabad, Telangana, India
Detailed Overview: Kuntala Waterfalls is the highest waterfall in the state of Telangana, standing at a majestic height of about 45 meters (147 feet). Formed by the Kadem River, the falls are located within the Sahyadri mountain range. The name "Kuntala" is derived from the legend of Shakuntala, the wife of King Dushyanta, who is said to have bathed in these very waters. The site is a major tourist draw, featuring a well-maintained entry point and a long flight of approximately 408 steps that lead down to the base of the falls. The waterfall descends in two distinct stages, creating a spectacular visual of white water crashing against dark basalt rocks. During the peak Monsoon, the roar of the water can be heard from a great distance. The surrounding forest is lush and serves as a vital habitat for local wildlife. A small shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as Someshwara Swami, is located near the falls, adding a spiritual dimension to the visit. Pilgrims and tourists alike flock here during festivals like Maha Shivaratri. The tourism department has developed some basic infrastructure, including viewpoints and seating areas, though the climb back up the stairs can be strenuous. The water eventually flows into the Kadem Reservoir, contributing to the irrigation of the region. Despite its popularity, the sheer scale of the falls and the depth of the surrounding jungle provide a sense of awe that is hard to find elsewhere. It is the pride of Adilabad tourism and a must-visit for anyone exploring Northern Telangana. The mist created by the falling water often results in rainbows on sunny afternoons, making it a dream for nature photographers.
