Alpine Trekking Heaven: Satsaran Pass, also known as Satsaran Gali Pass (3680m/12,073 ft), is a crucial high-altitude point on the renowned Kashmir Great Lakes Trek (KGL), offering a natural mountain pass between the Tulail Valley and the Sind Valley. It is named after the nearby Satsar Lake, a coll ection of seven alpine lakes spread over a 4 km stretch, nestled amid rocky foothills and lush green meadows of the Greater Himalayas. The pass and lakes are primarily fed by melting snow and are a sanctuary for brown trout fish and diverse alpine flora like potentilla and gentian. Access is seasonal, typically open from June to October. The trek route from Sonamarg often starts from the Shitkadi village, ascending through picturesque alpine meadows, making it a challenging but profoundly rewarding experience for seasoned trekkers and nature enthusiasts seeking isolated Himalayan grandeur.
