Historic Significance and Colonial Legacy: All Saints' Church is one of the oldest and most historically significant places of worship in Shillong, established originally in 1877 by the British during the colonial era. The initial structure, consecrated by Bishop Edward Johnson of Calcutta, was comp letely destroyed by the Great Assam Earthquake of 1897. The current, beautiful wooden structure was rebuilt and consecrated in 1902, serving as a powerful symbol of resilience and the enduring British legacy in the region. It is centrally located near the bustling Police Bazar, yet it offers a remarkably serene and spiritual retreat from the urban noise. The church is an active parish of the Church of North India (CNI) and is vital to the local Christian community. Unique Wooden Structure and Stained Glass: What sets this church apart is its unique construction, predominantly featuring local wood, which is a rare sight among large cathedrals in India. This wooden construction not only gives it a warm, inviting atmosphere but also makes it architecturally distinct. How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Shillong Airport (Umroi Airport), which is about 30 KMS away. It connects to a few regional cities like Kolkata and Guwahati. From the airport, one can hire a pre-paid taxi or a shared cab directly to the Police Bazar area or the church. The main air hub is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati Airport - GAU), about 120 KMS away, with better connectivity to all major Indian cities. From GAU, you can take a shared taxi or a private cab (known as "Meghalaya Tourist Taxis") to Shillong.

By Train: There is no railway station in Shillong. The nearest major railway station is Guwahati Railway Station (GHY), about 100 KMS away. GHY is well-connected to the rest of India. From GHY, hire a taxi or take a state transport bus or a shared sumo/cab to Shillong. The road journey is scenic and takes about 3-4 hours.

By Road: Shillong is easily accessible by road from Guwahati via NH 6 (previously NH 40). State-run buses (MTC and ASTC), private deluxe buses, and shared taxis (Sumos/Indicas) run frequently between Guwahati and Shillong. Within Shillong, the church is centrally located and easily reachable by all forms of local transport.

By Local Transport: The church is within walking distance (approx. 1 km) from the Police Bazar area. Local taxis (both private and shared) and local city buses ply all routes to the central area of the city. Ask for the landmark "Near Police Bazar" or "Near State Central Library" which are adjacent to the church.
