How To Reach Chanaka Korata Barrage
Adilabad, Telangana, India
The Chanaka Korata Barrage is a significant inter-state irrigation project situated on the Penganga River, serving both Telangana and Maharashtra. This massive structure is not just a functional utility but has become a popular local tourist spot due to its impressive scale and the vast reservoir o f water it holds. The barrage was constructed to provide irrigation to thousands of acres of parched land, transforming the agricultural landscape of the Jainath and Bheempur mandals. Standing on the walkway of the barrage, visitors can witness the sheer power of the river as it is regulated through multiple massive steel gates. The project includes a sophisticated pump house and a network of canals that stretch across the border. During the rainy season, when all the gates are opened, the sight of the rushing water is truly spectacular, drawing crowds from nearby towns. The surrounding area is relatively flat, offering an unobstructed view of the horizon and beautiful sunsets over the water. It is a great example of modern civil engineering integrated with the natural river flow. For students and engineering enthusiasts, it serves as an educational site to understand water management and lift irrigation systems. The site is easily accessible by road from Adilabad town, making it a quick weekend getaway. The serene atmosphere near the reservoir, with the sound of lapping water and the occasional breeze, provides a relaxing environment. While it is primarily an industrial/agricultural site, the scenic beauty of the backwaters has made it a favorite for evening strolls and photography. It stands as a symbol of cooperation between neighboring states and a lifeline for the local farming community. :
