How To Reach Chiraikhar

Netarhat, Jharkhand, India
Chiraikhar is a serene and relatively untouched scenic spot nestled within the thick Sal and Pine forests of the Netarhat Plateau. Unlike the famously crowded viewpoints, Chiraikhar offers a tranquil and peaceful experience, making it a favorite among travelers seeking solitude and a deeper connecti on with nature. Its name, literally translating to 'Bird's Nest' or 'Birds' Tree' in local dialects, suggests its rich avian life and secluded, elevated position. The spot provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding Chota Nagpur Plateau hills, which are covered in a dense, green canopy that stretches out to the horizon. The viewpoint is characterized by its quiet atmosphere, often broken only by the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, creating a meditative escape. It serves as an excellent spot for observing the varied local flora and fauna. It is a place where the air is crisp, clean, and carries the distinct, fresh fragrance of Pine and other forest trees. The landscape changes dramatically with the seasons; it is misty and lush during the Monsoon, bright and blooming in Spring, and cool and crisp in Winter, each season painting the view in a unique color palette. This spot is a testament to the raw, unspoiled natural beauty that has earned Netarhat the title of the "Queen of Chotanagpur." Chiraikhar represents the essence of this remote hill station, offering a private window into the region's wilderness.

How to Reach

By Air (From Ranchi - 156 KMS) : The nearest major airport is Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi. Ranchi is well-connected to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. From the airport, the best way to reach Netarhat is by pre-booked private taxi or a reliable cab service. The road journey from Ranchi to Netarhat is approximately 156 kilometers and takes about 4 to 5 hours on the picturesque, winding mountain roads. The route is scenic, passing through small towns and dense forests. Once you reach the Netarhat main market/town center, you can hire a local cab or an auto-rickshaw for the final 4-5 KMS to Chiraikhar.

By Train (From Lohardaga or Ranchi) : The nearest railway station that is relatively closer to Netarhat is Lohardaga Railway Station (LAD), which is about 70 kilometers away. A more major, better-connected railhead is the Ranchi Junction Railway Station (RNC), which is approximately 154 kilometers away. Ranchi is on a major line with trains from across India. From Lohardaga, you can hire a taxi or take a shared jeep/bus service to Netarhat. From Ranchi, the taxi option is recommended. Once in Netarhat, the final leg to Chiraikhar is a short local ride.

By Road (National and State Highways) : Netarhat is accessible by road, primarily via the road connecting it to the district headquarter, Latehar (82 KMS), and the state capital, Ranchi (156 KMS). State Highway 9 (SH 9) is a key route. Regular State-run and private buses operate from Ranchi and nearby towns to Netarhat Bus Stand. Driving in a private car is highly enjoyable, but the last stretch into the hills involves steep inclines and sharp bends, requiring cautious driving. The road journey from Ranchi via Mahuadanr is particularly popular.

By Local Transport (Within Netarhat) : To reach Chiraikhar from the Netarhat town center (where the bus stand and hotels are located), the best options are local auto-rickshaws (Tuk-Tuks) or local jeep/taxi services. Since the spot is relatively close (4-5 KMS), an auto-rickshaw or a hired car for a round trip is the most convenient way. Ensure you negotiate the fare beforehand, and arrange for the driver to wait or return for your pick-up, as local transport options can be scarce directly at the remote viewpoint. A short, pleasant trek is also possible if you are fit and know the path.
