Reservoir Overview: The Kadam Dam, officially known as the Kadam Narayana Reddy Project, is a major water reservoir constructed across the Kadam River, a tributary of the Godavari. Built between 1949 and 1964, it was designed to provide irrigation to the drought-prone lands of the Adilabad region. The project is an engineering marvel that integrates with the Sriram Sagar Project via the Saraswathi Canal. It is situated at the scenic confluence where the Kadam and Godavari rivers meet, creating a vast expanse of blue water. The dam is surrounded by picturesque hillocks and dense greenery, making it a top nature destination. During the peak monsoon months of August and September, the sight of water gushing through the floodgates is truly awe-inspiring. The project provides water to over 68,000 hectares of farmland, supporting the local agrarian economy significantly. It is popularly referred to as the Godavari North Canal Project among locals and engineers. The area around the dam has been developed with a beautiful park and garden for tourists to relax. The reservoir also offers boating facilities, allowing visitors to experience the scale of the water body. It is a favorite picnic spot for families traveling from Nirmal and Adilabad. The dam's history is linked to a local sage named Kandava, who is said to have performed rituals here. Today, it stands as a symbol of progress and natural beauty in Telangana.

How to Reach

By Air: Hyderabad Airport is the nearest international airport, approximately 270 KMS from the dam. After landing, tourists usually take a bus or a private cab toward Nirmal or Adilabad to reach the Kadam Project site easily.

By Train: The nearest railway station is at Adilabad, about 110 KMS away, or Mancherial, about 50 KMS away. Many visitors prefer getting down at Mancherial as it is closer to the dam and well-connected to the Secunderabad-Manmad line.

By Road: The dam is situated close to the Nirmal-Mancherial road. Frequent state-run TSRTC buses operate from Adilabad, Nirmal, and Hyderabad. If you are driving, the route via NH 44 is smooth and well-marked with signboards.

By Local Transport: From the nearby towns of Kaddam or Peddur, local autos and mini-buses are available to take you to the dam entrance. The local transport is affordable and frequent during the daytime, making the dam very accessible for all.
