How To Reach Kala Ashram Adilabad

Adilabad, Telangana, India
Cultural Overview: Kala Ashram is a unique institution founded in 1979 by the visionary artist Sri Ravindra Sharma, affectionately known as Guruji. Located on the outskirts of Adilabad, this two-acre sanctuary is dedicated to the preservation of traditional Indian arts, crafts, and rural wisdom. It is not a typical religious ashram but a "live museum" where artisans and students coexist to keep ancient knowledge alive. The ashram focuses on the bridge between traditional science and modern lifestyle, fostering creativity through aesthetic sense. It serves as a research center for genealogists, bards, and storytellers from various tribal communities like the Gonds and Ojhas. The founder spent his life traveling through villages to document the "Soundarya Drishti" or the creative eye of the rural folk. Visitors can witness workshops on handloom weaving, tribal casting, and herbal medicine. The campus itself is a model of sustainable living, built with local materials and traditional designs. It houses a massive collection of household vessels, musical instruments, and ritual artifacts that define the region's heritage. Students from prestigious institutes like NIFT and IIT often visit to learn about functional design from Guruji’s philosophy. The ashram encourages a meditative lifestyle where art is viewed as an integral part of the daily economy. It is a place for intellectual churning and cultural revival, attracting people from across the globe. The quiet, leafy environment provides a sharp contrast to the bustling city life nearby.
