How To Reach Mova Cave

Ukhrul, Manipur, India:
Mova Cave, also known as Hundung Mova Cave, is a magnificent natural limestone cave system situated in the village of Hungpung near Ukhrul town, a popular destination for spelunking and nature lovers. It is locally known for its impressive main hall, which is said to be large enough to host over a h undred people, making it a natural gathering spot in the heart of the hills. The cave is a product of millennia of geological activity, carved out of Cretaceous limestone, an area rich in such geological formations, including the famous Khangkhui Cave. The local people hold a mystical belief about the cave, considering it to be the 'female' counterpart to a nearby steep, solid rock mountain believed to be the 'male' partner, illustrating the Tangkhul Naga tribe's deep connection to nature and their animistic traditions. Exploring the cave offers a thrilling experience, moving through the main hall to narrow passages that sometimes require crouching or kneeling to navigate, leading eventually to a natural exit near the Lungshang river. Visitors are advised to prepare for a rustic adventure, bringing necessary gear like flashlights and wearing sturdy, comfortable shoes. The journey into the cave offers a cool respite from the outside temperature and a chance to witness the natural art created by dripping water over time.
