How To Reach Pine Forest Trail
How to Reach
By Air (400+ words): The nearest major airport is Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Ranchi is approximately 156 to 170 KMS from Netarhat. The airport has good connectivity with major Indian metropolitan cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Upon arrival at Ranchi airport, the onward journey to Netarhat must be completed by road. You can hire a pre-paid taxi or a private cab directly from the airport terminal. The journey takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. The road is scenic, particularly the final stretch up the plateau, winding through seven hills. Pre-booking a reliable driver is recommended, especially for late-night arrivals.
By Train (400+ words): Netarhat does not have its own railway station. The two main railheads are Ranchi Railway Station (RNC) (approx. 154 KMS) and the closer but smaller station, Lohardaga Railway Station (LAD) (approx. 70 KMS). Ranchi is the more convenient option, connecting to major cities across India (e. g. , Howrah, Patna, Mumbai). From Ranchi station, taxis, shared cabs, and state-run buses are available for the final leg to Netarhat. The train journey to Lohardaga is shorter, but fewer direct trains are available, and the transport options from Lohardaga to Netarhat might be less frequent or reliable, typically requiring a taxi or a local jeep (Jeeps are a popular mode of shared local transport in the area). The road from Lohardaga is also picturesque but can be narrow in stretches.
By Road (400+ words): Netarhat is best reached by road. It is well-connected to major cities in Jharkhand and neighboring states. Ranchi is the main hub, approximately 156 KMS away. Regular State Transport buses (from Jharkhand Tourism or Bihar state services) and private buses ply the route, though the bus journey can be lengthy (5-6 hours). The most comfortable option is hiring a private taxi or cab from Ranchi. The drive is a key part of the Netarhat experience, famous for the scenic views of the Chotanagpur Plateau. The final climb involves hairpin bends, requiring a cautious and experienced driver.
By Local Transport (400+ words): Once in Netarhat town, the Pine Forest Trail is very close, approximately 2-3 KMS from the main market area.
The best ways to reach the forest are:
1) Walking: It's a pleasant, short walk of about 30-45 minutes, ideal for enjoying the local atmosphere.
2) Local Auto-Rickshaw/Tuk-Tuk: Easily available from the market or near the main lodges; they offer a quick ride for a nominal negotiated fee.
3) Shared Jeep/Taxi: Local shared transport vehicles often make rounds to the main tourist spots, including the forest.
4) Personal Vehicle: If you drove to Netarhat, a short drive will get you there, with some limited parking available near the entrance.
