Khudei Community Reserve
Khudei Community Reserve is a pioneering conservation effort in Manipur, where the local community has taken the lead in protecting their natural heritage. Established in 2018, the reserve covers a significant area of forest land that is home to diverse flora and fauna, including rare orchids and b ird species. The initiative was started to prevent deforestation and hunting, transforming the area into a safe haven for wildlife. It represents the deep-rooted connection between the tribal communities of Thoubal and their environment. The reserve offers a pristine trekking experience through dense foliage and undulating terrain. Visitors can witness the "community-led" model of tourism, where locals serve as guides and protectors of the land. The area is particularly beautiful during the spring when the forest is in full bloom. It serves as a vital lung for the district and an educational hub for environmentalists. The silence of the woods, broken only by the chirping of birds, provides a meditative escape from urban noise. The reserve also protects several natural springs that are vital for the downstream villages.
