Lousi Lake
Lousi Lake is one of the most significant and largest freshwater lakes in the Thoubal district. Historically, it was a massive water body that played a crucial role in the local economy through fishing and irrigation. However, a major portion of the lake was drained in the late 20th century to crea te agricultural land for the growing population, a project known as the "Lousi Pat Drainage Scheme." Despite this, a substantial part of the wetland remains, offering a unique landscape where water and paddy fields intermingle. The lake is a haven for traditional fishermen who use ancient Meitei methods to catch local fish varieties. It is also an important site for those interested in environmental history and the impact of human intervention on nature. The surrounding area is incredibly scenic, with the Khongjom hills providing a majestic backdrop. Visitors can see the vast expanse of the valley from here, making it a popular spot for photography.
