Photos Of Naina Devi Temple
Nainital, Uttarakhand, India
Mythological Significance: The Naina Devi Temple is one of the revered Shakti Peeths in India. According to the legend of Sati, the temple is believed to be the spot where the eyes (Naina) of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was carrying her burnt corpse, giving the deity the name Maa Naina Devi. T he principal deity is Maa Naina Devi, represented by two eyes, accompanied by the idols of Maa Kali and Lord Ganesha. The current temple structure was built in 1883 after the original was destroyed by a massive landslide in 1880. The temple's location at the northern tip of the picturesque Naini Lake enhances its spiritual and scenic appeal, drawing devotees and tourists alike throughout the year. The sacred peepal tree at the entrance is a notable feature. (Note: Expand this to 400+ words, including the history of the 1880 landslide and the rebuilding effort.):
