Phouoibi Temple
Details : The Phouoibi Temple is dedicated to the Meitei goddess of agriculture, wealth, and prosperity. In local mythology, Phouoibi is a central figure who ensures a bountiful harvest and protects the paddy fields. The temple is a significant spiritual site for the agrarian community of Manipur. Legend has it that the goddess arrived in Moirang to make the land prosperous. The temple serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted connection between the people of the valley and their land. Rituals here involve offerings of grains, fruits, and traditional prayers performed by Maibas and Maibis (priests and priestesses). It is a place of peace where the ancient traditions of the Kangleipak kingdom are still kept alive through daily worship and seasonal festivals.
