Pillalamarri Temple

Suryapet, Telangana., India
The Pillalamarri Temple, also known as the Erakeswara Temple, is a 1000-year-old shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in 1208 CE by the Recherla Reddi dynasty, who were vassals of the Kakatiyas, this temple is a hallmark of Telangana's medieval heritage. The village was once a flourishing town und er the Kakatiya kings and serves as the birthplace of the famous poet Pillamarri Pina Virabhadrudu. The temple complex is renowned for its stunning stone carvings that cover almost every inch of the structure. Despite facing damage during historical invasions, the temple still stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of ancient artisans. Inside the sanctum, the Shiva Linga is worshiped with great devotion. The serene atmosphere of the village and the historical weight of the temple make it a must-visit. It is one of the most accessible heritage sites near Suryapet. Visitors often feel transported back to the 13th Century while walking through its pillared halls.
