Rongara

Baghmara, Meghalaya, India
The Untamed Wilderness of Rongara: Rongara is a remote and beautiful town located at the very edge of the South Garo Hills, near the Bangladesh border. It serves as a vital administrative and cultural hub for the surrounding tribal villages. The area is famous for its wild and rugged terrain, featur ing deep gorges and the roaring Simsang River. Rongara is often the final stop for explorers heading into the deepest parts of the Balpakram National Park. The town is surrounded by a Wildlife Sanctuary that bears its name, which is home to elephants, leopards, and rare primates like the Hoolock Gibbon. The culture here is purely Garo, with very little outside influence, offering a truly authentic experience. The marketplace in Rongara is a vibrant place where locals from both sides of the border occasionally trade goods. The landscape is a mix of high plateaus and deep river valleys, providing some of the most dramatic scenery in Meghalaya. It is a place for the true adventurer who wants to see the "real" Northeast India.
