Overview: Pithoragarh Fort, also historically referred to as London Fort (due to a brief period of British colonial administration and its strategic importance), is a significant historical monument located on a small hill on the outskirts of Pithoragarh town. It was originally constructed in the ye ar 1789 by the Gorkhas after they conquered the region from the Chands of Kumaon. The fort is strategically positioned to offer a commanding view of the entire Soar Valley. While only remnants and the main structure (which now houses a college or government office) remain, the fort's hilltop location provides an excellent vantage point for historical reflection and panoramic photography of the surrounding hills and the town below. Its historical importance lies in its role as a key military and administrative center through the Gorkha and British eras:
