Dhanbad Zoo

Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India
The Dhanbad Zoo, currently a Proposed Project in Amaghata, is set to become the district's first major wildlife conservation and education center. Spanning over 60 acres of land, the project aims to replicate the success of the Birsa Biological Park in Ranchi. The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has be en involved in the inspection of the site, which was chosen for its natural hilly terrain and existing forest cover. For years, residents of Dhanbad had to travel to Bokaro or Ranchi to visit a zoo; this project will bridge that gap. The proposed plan includes enclosures for local species, a Deer Park, and an Aviary. While the full-scale zoo is under development, the Amaghata Nursery area already serves as a minor green spot for nature enthusiasts. Once completed, it will provide employment to locals and boost Eco-Tourism in the region. The focus of the zoo will be on the rescue and rehabilitation of animals found in the Chota Nagpur Plateau. It represents a significant step towards preserving the biodiversity of the coal belt.
