Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary

Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India
Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful protected area spread over 8.75 Square KMS. At its heart lies the stunning Topchanchi Lake, an artificial reservoir built in 1915 to supply water to the mining district. The sanctuary is surrounded by the majestic Parasnath Hills, creating a landscape th at is both rugged and serene. It is home to various wild animals including leopards, jungle cats, and several species of deer. The lush forest consists mainly of Sal and Bamboo trees, providing a dense canopy for birdlife. During winter, the lake becomes a haven for migratory birds from Siberia and other cold regions. The historical significance of the dam, combined with the natural biodiversity, makes it a top destination for eco-tourism. It offers a much-needed break from the industrial landscape of Dhanbad, allowing visitors to breathe fresh air and enjoy the sounds of nature.
