FAQs On Titwala Ganesh Mandir

Thane, Maharashtra, India
Titwala Ganesh Mandir, also known as the Siddhivinayak Mahaganapati Temple, is one of the most revered and ancient temples in Maharashtra. It is located in the town of Titwala in the Kalyan taluka of Thane district. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and pros perity. According to legend, the original temple was built by Shakuntala, the daughter of sage Vishwamitra, at the hermitage of sage Kanva. The story goes that Shakuntala, having lost the memory of her husband King Dushyanta due to a curse, prayed to Lord Ganesha here for their reunion. The deity is thus believed to be a "filler of wishes" and especially famous for uniting separated couples and helping people find life partners. The current temple structure has a rich history as well; it was submerged in a tank and was rediscovered during the rule of Peshwa Madhavrao I. The Peshwa renovated the temple after his victory over the Vasai Fort. In 1965-66, the temple underwent a major modern renovation, transforming it into the grand structure seen today. The main idol of Lord Ganesha is made of black stone and is seated in a dignified pose, radiating a sense of peace. The temple is situated on the banks of the Kalu River, which adds to the spiritual and scenic charm of the location. On Tuesdays and during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Angarika Chaturthi, the temple attracts lakhs of devotees from all over Mumbai and Thane. The complex is spread over a large area and includes a beautiful pond where boating is available. The surrounding area is peaceful, with many small shops selling flowers, sweets, and religious artifacts. It is not just a religious site but a place where history, mythology, and faith converge. Many people believe that visiting this temple before starting any new venture ensures success. The temple trust also engages in various social and charitable activities, maintaining the premises with high standards of cleanliness.
