Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary is a sprawling protected area in the Thane district, covering approximately 320 square kilometers. It is nestled in the foothills of the Sahyadri range and is named after the Tansa River, which flows through the heart of the sanctuary. This region is vital for the water sec urity of Mumbai and Thane, as it houses the Tansa Lake, one of the largest reservoirs supplying water to the metropolitan area. The vegetation is dominated by Teak, Khair, Bamboo, and Ain trees. The landscape is characterized by undulating hills, dense jungle trails, and the serene expanse of the Tansa reservoir.
