How To Reach Kishansar Meadow

Kishansar Meadow is the lush, rolling alpine pasture that completely surrounds the beautiful Kishansar Lake (also spelled Krishansar). Located at an altitude of approximately 3,710 meters (12,170 ft), the meadow is the main feature of the camping ground on the second or third day of the Kashmir Grea t Lakes Trek (KGL) route from Sonamarg. The meadow is framed by towering snow-capped peaks and often frequented by local shepherds (Gujjar and Bakarwal) with their flocks. It is a stunning, high-altitude landscape known for its tranquility and the vibrant display of wildflowers, making it a favorite spot for camping and photography.

How to Reach

By Air: Fly to Srinagar International Airport (SXR). Take a road transfer to the trek starting point at Shitkadi (near Sonamarg).

By Train: Nearest major station is Jammu Tawi (JAT). Road journey to Srinagar, then local transport to the trek base.

By Road: Reach Sonamarg first (approx. 80 km from Srinagar). The meadow/lake is reached via a strenuous multi-day trek on foot or pony from the Shitkadi village (via Nichnai Pass).

By Local Transport: Hire a pony and a local, registered guide from the Sonamarg area to reach the lake/meadow. No motorable road exists.
