By Train: The nearest major railway station is Jammu Tawi Railway Station (JAT), roughly 370 KM away. Travelers must proceed to Srinagar by taxi or local bus and then continue to Sonamarg. The closer Srinagar Railway Station is technically about 47 KM away but has limited connectivity.
By Road: The lake is reached only via a multi-day, high-altitude trek. Drive from Srinagar to Sonamarg (~3 hours) via NH 1. The trek starts near Shitkadi village, a short drive from the main Sonamarg market. The final and challenging leg is the 11 KM trek to Nichnai Pass and then the descent to the lake, requiring a certified guide and proper gear.
By Local Transport: From Sonamarg town, hire a local union taxi or take a shared jeep for the short distance (approx. 6 KM) to the trek's starting point at Shitkadi. From Shitkadi, the only way is on foot (trekking) or by hiring a pony, as this is a high-altitude wilderness area. (Summary maintains focus for ).
