How To Reach Sakshi Gopal Temple

Puri, Odisha, India
Sakshi Gopal Temple is a highly revered medieval Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, locally known as Gopinath, along with his consort, Goddess Radha. The name 'Sakshi Gopal' literally means the 'Witness God', and the temple's fame is rooted in a fascinating legend: the Deity here is said to hav e miraculously walked from Vrindavan to a village near Puri to serve as a witness to a promise made between two devotees. Historically, the temple is believed to have been one of the 16 shrines built by King Vajra, the grandson of Lord Krishna. Located in the town of Sakshigopal, the temple acts as a crucial spiritual stop for pilgrims traveling to Puri, often marking the gateway to the main holy city. The temple structure is built in the distinctive Kalinga architectural style and is known for its serene atmosphere, offering a peaceful contrast to the bustling crowds of the main Puri city temples. A major annual event celebrated here is the Anla Nabami (or Amla Navami) festival, typically held in the October or November month, during which Goddess Radha's feet are uncovered for public viewing only for a single day, drawing massive crowds of devotees. The temple's spiritual narrative emphasizes truth, devotion, and the Lord's accessibility to His sincere followers. (400 words)
