Jahangir Mahal

Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, Country: India
:Jahangir Mahal is a magnificent, three-storied palace built in the early 17th century (c. 1605-1627) by Raja Bir Singh Deo to commemorate the single visit of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir to Orchha. The palace is an architectural marvel that perfectly embodies the friendship between the Bundela Rajp uts and the Mughals, featuring a harmonious blend of both architectural styles. It has a distinctive symmetrical square layout, numerous arched openings, hanging balconies (jharokhas), and eight large, decorative domes. The palace was designed as a fortified citadel, overlooking the river and the surrounding landscape. Its interior courtyards and terraces are particularly impressive, showcasing the grandeur intended for the imperial guest. It is the most imposing and architecturally significant structure within the Orchha Fort Complex.
