Rai Praveen Mahal

Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, Country: India
:Rai Praveen Mahal is a beautiful, two-storied palace constructed in the early 17th century (c. 1618) by Maharaja Indrajit Singh for his beloved court poetess and musician, Rai Praveen—the celebrated Nightingale of Orchha. The palace is modest compared to the Jahangir Mahal, reflecting her status as a muse rather than a queen. It stands gracefully within the Anand Mandal Bagh (Circle of Joy), an exquisite ornamental garden. The palace is renowned for its remaining frescoes (murals) that often depict Rai Praveen herself and scenes from her life. The site is a romantic testament to the king's devotion and Rai Praveen's fame, particularly her legend where she politely refused the advances of the Mughal Emperor Akbar and was sent back to Orchha with honor.
