Kal Bhairav Temple

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India
Mystic Details: The Kal Bhairav Temple is perhaps the most intriguing shrine in Ujjain, dedicated to the fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva who is considered the "Kotwal" or the chief police officer of the city. This temple is globally renowned for its unique ritual where devotees offer liquor to t he deity, and remarkably, the liquid is seen disappearing into the mouth of the stone idol as the priest holds a saucer to its lips. This phenomenon has baffled scientists and visitors for centuries, as there are no visible drainage systems or cracks in the idol, leading many to believe it is a genuine divine miracle of Lord Bhairav. Historically, the temple is associated with the Tantric cults of the Kapalikas and Aghoras, who worshipped Bhairav to gain spiritual powers and protection from negative energies. The temple is situated on the banks of the Shipra river in an area known as Bhairav Garh, which is also famous for its traditional hand-block printing industry. Every visitor to Ujjain is advised to visit Kal Bhairav after visiting Mahakaleshwar to complete their pilgrimage, as he is the protector who grants permission to leave the holy city safely. :
