Karera Fort

Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, India
Karera Fort is an ancient stronghold located in the town of Karera, which is also famous for its wildlife sanctuary. The fort was once a significant administrative center during the regional rule of various local clans before being integrated into the Gwalior state. It stands on a slightly elevated terrain, offering a strategic view of the surrounding plains and the Mahuar River. While much of the fort is now in ruins, the massive stone bastions and the remains of the main hall (Darbar Hall) speak volumes about its past importance. The fort is unique because it combines military architecture with a close proximity to a delicate ecosystem known for birdwatching. Visitors can wander through the abandoned corridors and feel the echoes of a bygone era amidst the chirping of wild birds.
