The Exclusive Wolf Habitat: It is famous globally among zoologists as the only place in India where the Indian Grey Wolf (Canis lupus pallipes) is the primary protected species. It is also famous for the Lodh Falls, which is located within the same geographical block. The sanctuary is a prime example of successful community-based conservation, where the local Sarna tribes protect the forest during the wolves' breeding season.

The Natural Denning Landscape: There are no significant man-made architectural structures within the sanctuary, as the focus is on preserving the "natural architecture" of the wolf dens. These dens are typically found in rocky crevices and earthen burrows along the slopes of the Chotanagpur hills. The sanctuary features a "cup-shaped" valley floor surrounded by mountains on all sides. Dimensions of the protected area cover 63. 25 sq. km. The forest department has constructed a few wooden watchtowers (approx. 30 feet high) that follow a rustic, eco-friendly design to minimize impact on the wolves' habitat.
