A Sanctuary for Manipuri Wildlife: The Manipur Zoological Garden, inaugurated on October 2, 1976, is a crucial conservation and public education center situated in the Iroisemba area of Imphal. The zoo has successfully maintained a small captive breeding population of the Sangai, which is found only in the floating phumdis (biomass) of the Keibul Lamjao National Park on Loktak Lake. Visitors can observe this magnificent and graceful deer in a near-natural habitat enclosure. Beyond the Sangai, the zoo houses a diverse collection of local and exotic fauna, including various species of primates, reptiles, and birds, many of which are endemic to the North-East Indian region.
