The Great Stupa: Mindrolling Monastery, often simply called the Buddha Temple, is one of the largest and most significant Tibetan Buddhist centers in India. It is most famous for its stunning and colossal Great Stupa (The Great Stupa of Enlightenment), which stands over 220 feet tall (approximately 67 meters) and is considered the largest in Asia. The Lineage: The monastery belongs to the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism (the oldest school). Originally established in Tibet in 1676, it was re-established in Dehradun in 1965 by Khochhen Rinpoche after the Chinese invasion of Tibet. Architecture and Art: The complex is an architectural masterpiece, housing multiple shrines, a massive central temple, meticulously maintained gardens, and murals depicting the life and teachings of Lord Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava. Ngagyur Nyingma College: The complex also hosts the Ngagyur Nyingma College, one of the largest Buddhist study institutes in the world, providing education to hundreds of monks and preserving ancient Buddhist traditions.
