Vantawng Falls, known locally as Vantawng Khawhthla, is the most spectacular and highest waterfall in Mizoram, plunging from a height of about 750 feet. It is located on the Vanva River near the handloom hub of Thenzawl. The waterfall is named after Vantawnga, a legendary swimmer who, according to Mizo folklore, could hover in the cascading water like a fish before a tragic accident involving a drifting log took his life. The falls are set within a deep, lush gorge surrounded by dense bamboo forests and tropical vegetation, making it a masterpiece of nature's design. Because of the sheer cliffs and the force of the water, the base of the falls is difficult to reach, but the government has constructed a well-maintained viewing tower that provides a stunning panoramic view of the entire cascade. From this vantage point, visitors can see the white, milky stream of water contrasting sharply with the deep green of the surrounding hills.
