Reviews Of Skandashram
Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India:
Details of Skandashram: Skandashram is one of the most sacred and important sites associated with the modern sage, Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi. It is a natural cave/ashram located high up on the North Eastern slope of the holy Arunachala Hill in Tiruvannamalai. The Maharishi lived and meditated he re for approximately six years (from 1916 to 1922), after moving from the famous Virupaksha Cave further down the hill. The ashram is named after Kandaswami, who renovated the natural cave into a more habitable dwelling for the Maharishi and his mother, Alagammal. The path to Skandashram is part of the sacred Girivalam (circumambulation) route and requires a moderately challenging uphill trek of about 1-2 hours from the foothills. The site is a haven of peace and tranquility, offering a spectacular, unhindered view of Tiruvannamalai City, the great Arunachaleswarar Temple's gopurams, and the surrounding plains. It was here that Ramana Maharishi's mother attained Mahasamadhi in 1922, prompting the Maharishi to move down the hill to the site of her tomb, which eventually grew into the vast Sri Ramana Ashram. Today, the cave is beautifully maintained and continues to attract devotees from all over the world who come to meditate in the space where the Maharishi realized and taught his message of Self-Enquiry (Atma Vichara).
