Duke's Nose, locally known as Nagphani (meaning 'Cobra's Hood'), is an iconic cliff-top viewpoint that gets its name from its uncanny resemblance to the nose of the Duke of Wellington. The cliff juts out dramatically from the main mountain range, offering a thrilling and unobstructed panoramic view of the Sahyadri mountains and the deep valley of the Bhor Ghat. Located closer to Khandala than Lonavala proper, the peak is a favorite for adventure seekers. The trek to the top is considered moderate, making it accessible but challenging enough for a fulfilling hike. It is a major center for adventure sports, including rappelling, zip-lining, and rock climbing, which are conducted by various local adventure groups. From the summit, one can clearly see the winding roads of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the rail lines below. The Nagphani structure is particularly striking, resembling the flared hood of a cobra poised to strike. The viewpoint is highly popular for both sunrise and sunset, providing photographers with spectacular lighting conditions. The area is surrounded by dense forest, which becomes intensely green during the monsoon, adding to the dramatic scenery.
