Nature Overview: Kanakai Water Falls, also known as Kanakadurga Waterfalls, is a hidden natural wonder located near Girnur village. The falls are formed on the Kadem River and are famous for their rugged beauty and adventurous trekking trails. This site is actually a series of three distinct waterf alls: the small Kanakai falls, the main Bandrev falls, and the mysterious Cheekati Gundam. The water cascades from a height of about 30 feet into a deep, wide pool that is perfect for swimming. Surrounded by dense forests and ancient rock formations, it offers a serene escape for nature lovers. The name is derived from the Kanaka Durga temple situated right at the entrance of the falls. During festivals, the temple attracts many local tribal devotees, adding a cultural layer to the visit. The trek from the village to the falls involves navigating rocky terrain and forest paths for about 2 kilometers. It is considered one of the most beautiful "hidden gems" of the Sahyadri mountain range in Telangana. The panoramic view from the top of the falls is breathtaking, showcasing the winding river and thick canopy. Unlike the more crowded Kuntala Falls, Kanakai offers a more secluded and raw experience of the wilderness. The sound of the gushing water echoing through the trees creates a tranquil atmosphere. It is a favorite spot for photographers looking to capture the pristine beauty of the Adilabad forests. The site is best visited during the post-monsoon months when the river is full and the greenery is at its peak.

Health & Safety: The rocks near the falls are extremely slippery, especially during the monsoon. Wear sturdy trekking shoes with a good grip and avoid going too close to the edge of the falls or the deep center of the pools.

Packing Essentials: Carry a change of clothes if you plan to swim. Bring plenty of drinking water and energy snacks, as there are no shops once you leave Girnur village. Insect repellent is a must for the forest trek.

Cash & Connectivity: Mobile network is very weak or non-existent at the waterfall site. Carry enough cash to pay for the guide and parking in the village. Inform someone about your plans as you won't be able to make calls from the falls.
