Binka River Ghat

Bargarh, Odisha, India
The Sin-Destroyer: This ancient river ghat on the banks of the Mahanadi is steeped in myth and religious significance. Known as Papakshya, which literally translates to "destruction of sins," it is believed that a dip in these holy waters cleanses the soul. Legend tells of King Anangabhima Deva of P uri, who was cured of a debilitating skin disease after bathing here on the advice of his priests. The ghat consists of wide stone steps leading down to the river, where devotees perform various rituals, especially during eclipses. The river here is wide and calm, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding plains and distant hills. It is a place where the spiritual rhythm of rural Odisha can be felt most strongly, away from the commercial noise of cities. The presence of an ancient banyan tree at the top of the ghat, dedicated to a local goddess, adds to the mystical atmosphere of the site.
