Patali Srikhetra
Patali Srikhetra is a site of immense spiritual and historical importance, located at the base of the Trikut Hill. According to the Madala Panji, when the demon king Raktavahu invaded Puri, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra were brought here and hidden in the caves for 144 years . This "hiding" or "Patali" gives the place its name. It remained an underground sanctuary until King Yayati Keshari rediscovered the idols and reinstated them in Puri. Today, it is a revered pilgrimage site that bridges the traditions of Puri with Western Odisha. The landscape is dominated by the three peaks of the Trikut Hill, representing the holy trinity. Archaeological excavations have revealed ancient pottery, sculptures, and temple ruins that date back to the 9th century. The site is serene, surrounded by dense forests and the echoes of spiritual chants. It is considered a "Tantrik Pitha" and is associated with the fusion of Vaishnavism, Buddhism, and Shaktism. Visitors feel a deep sense of mystery and peace while exploring the caves where the Lord once resided:
