Chatakpur

Kalimpong, West Bengal, India
Overview: Chatakpur is a pristine eco-village located at an altitude of 7,887 feet within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary. It was developed by the forest department to promote eco-tourism and provide a livelihood for the local community. The village offers a breathtaking, unobstructed view of the Kan chenjunga range. It is a place of absolute peace, with no honking cars or city noises. The village consists of only about 18 to 20 houses, most of which offer homestay facilities. The surrounding forest is home to wildlife like the Red Panda, Barking Deer, and various species of eagles. A short walk from the village leads to a watchtower that provides a 360-degree view of the mountains and the plains of North Bengal. The locals practice organic farming and are very protective of their environment. It is an ideal destination for writers, photographers, and anyone looking for deep solitude. The nights are chilly and the skies are incredibly clear, making it a favorite for stargazers. It is one of the highest points in the region.
