How To Reach Ariyaman Beach

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India
Beach Overview::Ariyaman Beach, also popularly known as Kushi Beach, is a clean, tranquil, and picturesque stretch of coastline located off the main Rameswaram island on the road towards Ramanathapuram. It is one of the best-maintained beaches in the region, known for its gentle waves and shallow, c lear waters of the Bay of Bengal, making it exceptionally safe for swimming, especially for families and children. The beach is lined with dense groves of Casuarina trees, offering natural shade and a serene environment, a stark contrast to the pilgrimage sites of Rameswaram. The local authorities have developed the area with amenities such as children's play areas, a dedicated boating service, and clean-up initiatives, promoting it as a family-friendly tourist spot rather than a religious one. It serves as a perfect recreational and relaxation spot, allowing visitors to unwind after the intense spiritual journey of the pilgrimage. The long, sandy shore is ideal for long walks and jogging, providing a calm escape from the bustling temple town. Recreational Facilities::The beach is notable for the various recreational facilities available, including a watchtower for panoramic views, a water sports area for boating and jet-skiing (seasonal), and small changing rooms/washrooms. Its location on the mainland side, closer to the Pamban Bridge approach, makes it a favored stop for tourists traveling by road to or from the island. The overall atmosphere is one of relaxation and natural beauty, highlighting the coastal splendor of the Gulf of Mannar region.

How to Reach

By Air (Nearest Airport)::The nearest major airport is Madurai International Airport (IXM), approximately 170 KM away. From the airport, hiring a pre-booked taxi or a private cab is the most efficient way to reach the beach. The drive is scenic, crossing the Pamban Bridge and continuing past Rameswaram town towards the mainland side.

By Train (Pamban/Rameswaram)::The nearest main railway station is Rameswaram Railway Station (RMM), approximately 27 KM away. From the station, the best option is to hire a dedicated car or a long-distance auto-rickshaw to cover the distance. Alternatively, one can take a local bus from Rameswaram Bus Stand heading toward the mainland.

By Road (Self-Drive/Cab - Most Recommended)::The beach is located right on the main road connecting Rameswaram to the mainland/town of Ramanathapuram. This makes self-driving or hiring a private taxi the most convenient method. The journey from the main Rameswaram town takes about 30 to 45 minutes by car. The roads are generally in good condition.

By Local Transport (Bus)::Local buses running between Rameswaram Bus Stand and Ramanathapuram pass right by the entrance of Ariyaman Beach. While the cheapest option, it may involve a short wait and drop you off on the main road, requiring a brief walk. Pre-arranging a return taxi is advised due to the distance from Rameswaram center.
