How To Reach Bhoora Khon Waterfall

Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, India
The Bhoora Khon Waterfall is one of Shivpuri's most beautiful and accessible natural attractions, cherished by locals and tourists alike for its scenic beauty, especially during the vibrant monsoon season. The name 'Bhoora Khon' is locally derived and describes the visual of the site, which features a natural cascade where water plunges from a short height into a tranquil, emerald-green pool or tank at the base. The waterfall is seasonal, reaching its majestic peak flow immediately after heavy rains, typically from July to September, though a trickle may persist through the cooler months. The site is uniquely distinguished by the presence of an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva situated amidst the rugged rocks and the gushing water, lending a strong spiritual dimension to the natural wonder. This combination of a sacred space within a wild, picturesque natural setting makes it highly popular. Surrounded by the dense, forested terrain of the Madhav National Park's periphery, the area is a haven for nature lovers and a perfect spot for photography and a refreshing break. Local amenities are basic, emphasizing the site's natural, unspoiled character, and the entire experience is one of connecting with the raw beauty of the Madhya Pradesh landscape. Its accessibility—being only a short drive from the city center—further boosts its appeal as a prime getaway for a few hours of natural therapy, making it one of the three notable waterfalls in the district alongside Sultan Garh and Pawa falls. The large, clear pool at the bottom is a common spot for light wading and enjoying the cool mist generated by the cascade, providing a perfect escape from the region's heat. The sound of the falling water, the surrounding greenery, and the peaceful aura of the ancient shrine create a memorable and refreshing experience for every visitor.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Gwalior Airport (GWL), about 120 KMS away. From the airport, hire a pre-paid taxi to Shivpuri city. Once in the city, hire a local cab or auto-rickshaw to the waterfall, which is well-known. The entire journey takes around 3 hours.

By Train: The nearest major railway junction is Jhansi (JHS), about 95 KMS away. From Jhansi, take a bus or a shared taxi to Shivpuri Bus Stand. The local Shivpuri Railway Station (SVPI) has limited connectivity. The waterfall is easily accessible from the city center.

By Road: Bhoora Khon Waterfall is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the region, located approximately 10 KMS from the city center, often mentioned as being on the road near the Madhav Sagar Lake and the Madhav National Park periphery. From Shivpuri, follow the local road towards the park; the location is usually well-signposted or known to local drivers. The road is paved right up to the parking area near the fall.

By Local Transport: The most convenient way to reach the falls is by hiring an auto-rickshaw or a local taxi from the Shivpuri city center or any hotel. Due to its popularity, finding transport is easy. Always negotiate a round-trip fare, including waiting time, with the driver, as you will likely need to spend a few hours at the site, and finding an immediate return ride can be tricky, especially on busy weekends. The ride takes about 20-30 minutes.
