How To Reach Gingee Fort

Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India
Historic Military Marvel and Architectural Triangle: The Gingee Fort (also known as Senji Fort) is an astounding historical fort complex that Shivaji, the Maratha King, famously called the "most impregnable fortress in India." The British named it the "Troy of the East." Although it falls under the neighboring Villupuram District, it is a mandatory tourist stop for anyone visiting Tiruvannamalai due to its proximity. The fort complex is built on three major hillocks—Rajagiri, Krishnagiri, and Chandrayandurg—forming a massive triangle and enclosed by a massive 13-KM-long wall. It served as a major stronghold for the Vijayanagara Nayaks, the Marathas, the Mughals, the French, and the British, making its history rich with tales of siege and conquest. Its commanding view and robust structures, including a temple, mosque, and a seven-story wedding hall, showcase an integrated architectural defense system.
