How To Reach Kamleshwar Temple

Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India
The Legends of Kankhal: While the larger Kamleshwar Temple is in Srinagar, the one in Kankhal is an ancient and locally revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is mentioned in the Skanda Purana, linking it to the period of Lord Rama. One prominent legend associated with a temple of this name reco unts Lord Vishnu worshipping Shiva with one thousand lotuses. When Shiva tested him by hiding one, Vishnu prepared to replace it with one of his own eyes (Kamal Nayan), which gave the temple its name. Spiritual Fulfillment: The temple is especially significant for couples seeking the blessing of a child. A unique rite, the standing lamp ceremony on Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi, draws thousands of devotees who stay awake holding lamps to seek this blessing. Architectural Simplicity: The local Kankhal temple is characterized by a humble, traditional North Indian architecture, focused more on spiritual energy than grand ornamentation. It houses an ancient Shivling, believed to be much older than the present structure. Pilgrim’s Stop: It forms an essential part of the pilgrimage circuit in Kankhal, which is considered one of the most sacred towns in the Haridwar region, along with Haridwar proper and Mayapur: End.
